Computer is a high speed electronics device .The word of computers comes from the Greek word “compute”which means calculation. The history of computer is longer than the history of computer hardware and modern computer technology and includes the history of methods .
*Abacus;-
An abacus is a manual aid to calculating that can be moved up and down on a series of sticks or strings within a usually wooden frame.The abacus itself doesn’t calculate; it’s simply a divide for helping a human-being to calculate by remembering what has been counted.
*Napier’s bones;-
Napier’s bones is a manually operated calculating device created by ‘John Napier’ of merchiston, Scotland for the calculation of products and quotients of numbers. The method was based on lattice multiplication, and was also called ‘radiology’, a word invented by Napier himself.
* Stepped reckoner;-
The Step reckon-er was a digital mechanical calculator invented by the German mathematician
‘Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz’ around 1672 and completed in 1694. The name comes from the translation of the German term for it’s operating mechanism, staffelwaleze, meaning ‘stepped drum’.
* Charles Babbage;-(1791-1871)
Charles Babbage was an English polymath. A mathematician ,philosopher, inventor and mechanical engineer, Babbage originated the concept of a digital programmable computer. Charles Babbage is the father of computer because he created two engine. The name of engine are Analytical
engine and difference engine.
1.Analytical engine;-
The Analytical engine was a proposed mechanical general propose computer designed by English mathematician and computer pioneer Charles Babbage.It was first described in 1837 as the successor to Babbage’s difference engine, a design for a simpler mechanical computer.
2.Difference engine;-
A difference engine , first developed by Charles Babbage, is an automatic mechanical calculator designed to tube late polynomial functions. Its name is derived from the method of derived
differences, a way to interpolate or tabulate functions by using a small set of polynomial coefficients.

The tabulating machine was an electro-mechanical machine designed to asst in summarizing information stored on punched cards. Invented by Herman Hollerith, the machine was developed to help process data for the 1890 U.S census. Later models were widely used for business applications such as accounting and inventory control. It spawned a class of machines, knows as unit record equipment, and the data processing industry. This company name was ‘Computing -Tabulating-Recording company. Then 1924, change the company name.This company was developed by International Business Machines(IBM).
